Electric Resistance welded pipe or ERW is, in essence, a plate which is rolled to become a pipe, and welded using the electric resistance welding process. ERW tubing or Electric Resistance Welded pipe starts off as a simple flat sheet, but once rolled up it can be transformed into a pipe, and then welded into shape.

ERW refers to a small group of welding processes including seam and spot welding. These processes create coalescence of faying surfaces as heat used to form the weld is generated by the electrical resistance of said material, combined with both the time and the force used to hold materials together throughout the welding process. There are a number of factors which influence welding temperatures including the metal coating, the electrode materials and geometry, electrical current, electrode pressing force and proportions of the work pieces. Resistance welding methods are generally efficient, have very little impact and the environment, and they help to create strong, durable and sturdy tubes.
